About SFUSD Pathway to Teaching
We are a 15-month teacher credentialing program that operates within SFUSD. Pathway to Teaching offers practice-based credential programs in:
  • Multiple Subject (TK-5)
  • Multiple Subject + Bilingual Spanish Authorization (TK-5)
  • Education Specialist, Mild to Moderate Support Needs (K-12)

The Opportunity: Pathway to Teaching Candidates
We are excited to announce that SFUSD's Pathway to Teaching is now accepting applications for its 2023-24 cohort, which will start in March 2023.

Pathway to Teaching candidates are intern teachers who are teaching in the San Francisco School District while completing a blend of courses of online independent work and in-person evening and Saturday sessions culminating in their preliminary credential within 15-months. Additionally, they engage in weekly coaching, support, and supervision with district experts in their credential area.

Pathway teachers earn a full-time teaching salary and receive benefits.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • BA/BS conferred by June 1 2023, required
  • Desire to serve students by becoming a credentialed teacher
  • Eligible to work in the US

TIME COMMITMENT:
This is a year-long teacher credentialing program, including an intensive summer that starts in June 2023. Below are some of the areas that Pathway Teachers spend their time on:

Summer Pre-Service Preparation (PSP) Coursework & Field Work
  • Intensive preparation and clinical experience in your credential area, with embedded coursework and coaching
  • Teach in a "Learning Lab" classroom with an experienced Teacher Educator and 2-3 other Pathway teacher candidates
  • Participate in afternoon coaching with your Teacher Educator and small group of peers to analyze and reflect upon teaching and learning and plan for upcoming lessons
  • Engage in content-specific mini-courses taught by district content specialists
Academic Year Coursework
  • Online modules specific to the credential area, focused on serving students with special needs, English Language Development for English Language Learners, literacy, math, science, health, and social science
  • Modules include videos, journal entries, interactive quizzes, and culminating assignments that receive targeted feedback from course instructors
Continuous Support & Supervision and Professional Learning
  • Attend a combination of in-person sessions & online webinars
  • Engage with site and district practitioners who can support your development (e.g. literacy coaches, special education content specialists, instructional reform facilitators)
Coaching & Assessment
  • High-touch coaching and support from an expert in your credential area
  • Weekly 1:1 sessions including observations, real-time coaching and feedback, modeling and rehearsal, lesson planning, student work analysis, and assessment of progress
  • Monthly small group coaching with your coach cohort focused on cultivating resilience and community

SALARY & EXPENSES:
Pathway teachers are intern teachers with a salary starting at $54,000 a year. Pathway to Teaching costs $5,000 which will be paycheck deductible over 10 months from October 2023-June 2024.
