PIE Internship- Youth Educator Intern

School Year Internships:

Soil Born Farms works in school gardens in South Sacramento and Rancho Cordova. The focus of these programs is to make an impact on healthy food access in food deserts as well as provide education related to nutrition, environmental education, science and common core standards. This program is growing and the schools depend greatly on the help of college interns to make each school garden program successful.

This internship is funded through the Paid Industry Experience (PIE) Program. Students who can participate in this internship must meet the following requirements:

  • Be eligible to work in the US
  • Be enrolled at least half-time across all Los Rios campuses (six units for spring or fall; three units for summer)
  • Have a 2.0 GPA or higher

Interns will:

  • Work consistently at one school site on a weekly basis and on-site at Soil Born Farms. The days you work will be based around your student schedule.
  • Have supervision and guidance from a classroom teacher and/or Soil Born Staff
  • Use curriculum that has been prepared through Growing Together
  • Be willing to do physical labor to help maintain the garden with students
  • Work with elementary age students
  • Need to be available at least two weekday mornings
  • Support youth activities during farmstand on Saturdays

Interns will receive:

  • On-going support from Soil Born Staff and teacher teams at each school site
  • Opportunities to participate in classes, workshops, and events at Soil Born Farms
  • A friendly, supportive internship environment
  • Support and assistance pursuing internship goals
  • Potential for part-time employment after successful completion of internship

Requirements:

  • Desire to work with elementary students
  • Morning Availability (limited afternoon hours are available for this internship)
  • Must be able to work some Saturdays (2+ a month)
  • PAID OPPORTUNITY AVAILABLE FOR STUDENTS WITH QUALIFYING FINANCIAL AID
